Although various glass coating techniques have been developed to reduce heat, glare and UV light penetration, on there own they cannot provide a complete solution. Even after a short period of time UV light can take its toll. Polyester fabrics are commonly used as a blind fabric due to their resistance to ultraviolet light. Over long periods of time fading will occur though. Aluminium backed blinds do tend to have a much longer lifespan. Consider the effect on furniture also. Aluminium backed roof blinds will increase carpet and upholstery life more than blind fabrics without.
